Berry left the band the following year for health reasons, and Stipe, Buck and Mills continued as a trio, supplemented by studio and live musicians such as the multi-instrumentalists Scott McCaughey and Ken Stringfellow and the drummers Joey Waronker and Bill Rieflin.
